Kenneth H. Murray, Ph.D., P.E.,

Kenneth H. Murray is currently the associate vice chancellor for academic affairs and director of Title III programs at North Carolina A&T State University, a position he has held since 2000. He is a registered Professional Engineer in North Carolina with 35 years of academic experience from instructor, to professor, to chair, to dean, to associate vice chancellor. He has over five years experience as a structural engineer in private practice and holds the rank of professor of civil engineering at NC A&T.



Dr. Murray’s professional affiliations include: fellow, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and past president of two local branches; fellow, board of directors, and chair of the Education Activities Committee, American Concrete Institute (ACI); past local president and chairman, NC Professional Engineers in Education, National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE); and member of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE).



His awards include: Administrator of the Year 2008 at NC A&T; Excellence in Teaching Award, College of Engineering at NC A&T in 1996; the Henry L. Kennedy Award for outstanding service to ACI in 1993; Outstanding Civil Engineering Professor at NC A&T in 1988; and ASCE Outstanding Teacher Award at Old Dominion University in 1973.



In the later stages of his career, Dr. Murray has become interested in improving the teaching of civil engineering students. He was part of the initial planning for the ASCE-led Excellence in Civil Engineering Education (ExCEEd) and taught in the first five years of the program.



Dr. Murray’s research interests are reinforced concrete as a structural material, finite element analysis as a research and design tool, engineering design in civil engineering, and educational research. He has many publications and presentations to his credit.



Dr. Murray was introduced to hunting as an undergraduate student at Virginia Tech by a local alum and he still hunts as much as time permits. He also fishes in the mountains and on the coast of North Carolina with friends and family.



While at Virginia Tech, Ken married Claudia Moore and they have two adult children and one grandson. The Murrays live in Jamestown, North Carolina
