Outstanding Young Alumni Award
Gretchen Blair Clark, P.E.,
1997 B.S. Civil Engineering and Biological Systems Engineering
Reynolds-Clark Development, Inc.

Gretchen Blair Clark graduated from Virginia Tech in 1997 with degrees in civil engineering and biological systems engineering. Soon after graduating, she married and moved to Manhattan, Kan., while her husband attended graduate school. She worked as an engineering supervisor for the city of Manhattan and was responsible for managing computer-aided design (CAD), surveying, and technical staff dealing with maps and zoning. After the Clarks moved back to Virginia in 1998, she worked as a project engineer for McKim & Creed in Chesapeake, Va., where she supervised the CAD personnel and designed various civil engineering projects.

In 1999, a desire to return to her home area resulted in Ms. Clark joining the office of Dewberry in Danville, Va. She worked there until 2004 as a project engineer and project manager on design and construction contract support for sanitary and storm sewer projects, major site development projects, development of industrial parks, master plans,

and other civil and environmental engineering efforts. She is a registered professional engineer in North Carolina and Virginia.

Ms. Clark’s career took a significant turn in 2004 when she opened her own business in partnership with another engineer in their hometown of Gretna, Virginia. They purchased and renovated a building on Main Street that had been vacant for over 20 years to show the firm’s commitment to revitalization of Gretna and to provide professional jobs in the town. Ms. Clark currently serves as president of Reynolds-Clark Development, Inc.

Ms. Clark’s idea is to provide easily accessible and responsive engineering services delivered by a small, highly motivated company. Reynolds-Clark provides a variety of civil engineering services including commercial site design, utility design, subdivision design and environmental permitting. The firm also works with economic development clients in planning and design of new or renovated facilities.

She and her family have shown a strong commitment to their community. Since the Revitalization for a Greater Gretna was founded in 2005, Ms. Clark has been involved as a board member, fundraising chair and cochair on the 5K Race. She is also active in the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church and has taught Sunday school.

Other community involvement includes serving on the Board of Directors for the Danville Pittsylvania Chamber of Commerce and being an advisory member of the Danville Regional Foundation.

Ms. Clark is married to Timothy J. Clark, also a Virginia Tech graduate, and is the mother of two children, Gordon and Suter.
