William P. Jacobs, V, P.E.,
2003 M.S. Civil Engineering
Stanley D.
Lindsey and Associates, LTD (SDL)

William P. Jacobs, V, earned an M.S. in structural engineering in 2003 from Virginia Tech’s Via Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) where he attended as a Via Fellow. He received a B.S. in civil engineering from Clemson University in 2001.

After graduating from Virginia Tech, Mr. Jacobs joined Stanley D. Lindsey and Associates, LTD (SDL), a structural engineering design firm in Atlanta, Ga., where he now serves as an associate. He has been involved in the structural design and project management of low- and high-rise structures including office buildings, residential buildings, hotels, laboratories, churches, and education facilities. Highlights of his design work include the Turner Techwood 1015 building which utilizes 26-ft. deep “mega trusses” to span a studio building below, and the design of a proposed 50-story mixed-use tower to be located in downtown Atlanta. He has recently become involved in erection engineering activities including staged analysis and stability checks for the design of shoring systems such as the shoring design for the  re-build of the Atlanta Botanical Garden Canopy Walkway – a 600-ft long, cable-supported pedestrian bridge.

Mr. Jacobs is actively involved in several engineering organizations including the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and the Structural Engineering Association of Georgia (SEAOG). He is an active participant in the code development process with a particular interest in composite construction. He is the incoming vice-chairman of AISC Task Committee 5 on composite construction, and is a member of ASCE’s Methods of Design Committee. He is a registered professional engineer in Georgia and South Carolina.

Mr. Jacobs has worked to encourage the development of the structural engineering profession by spearheading the creation of an annual SDL scholarship for graduate-level structural engineering students at Clemson University; presenting educational seminars to freshman and sophomore engineering students at universities throughout the southeast; serving as a reviewer for multiple structural engineering journals; and authoring several technical articles for publication in structural engineering journals and magazines.

Mr. Jacobs and his wife, Ashley Dearhart Jacobs, P.E., reside in Roswell, Ga., where they are members of the Roswell Presbyterian Church.
