John R. Crigler,

VStructural LLC (VSL)

John R. Crigler earned his B.S. in 1979 in civil engineering from Virginia Tech. He has an outstanding record of service to his profession, particularly through his contributions to the American Segmental Bridge Institute (ASBI) and the Post-Tensioning Institute (PTI). In addition, Mr. Crigler has shown tremendous support of Virginia Tech through equipment donations to the Murray Structural Engineering Lab and support of research projects performed there. He is a registered professional engineer in Virginia, Florida, and Tennessee.



Mr. Crigler is president of VStructural LLC (VSL) of Hanover, Md., a recognized leader in post-tensioning and related engineering. VSL designs, manufactures, and installs post-tensioning systems and components and provides specialized construction systems. It also provides a comprehensive range of engineering services such as feasibility studies, preliminary designs, alternative proposals, detailing, and project coordination. For more than 30 years, Mr. Crigler has held various positions within VSL, including senior vice president and technical manager, project manager, division/chief engineer, national manager of bridges, and marketing manager. He is also a member of the International Technical Committee for VSL Worldwide.



From his many years of experience, Mr. Crigler has gained extensive knowledge of the design and construction of prestressed concrete structures including bridges, buildings, tanks, and silos. He played a key role as the VSL project manager for The Seven Mile Bridge in Marathon, Fla., and headed up the joint venture to provide post-tensioning for The Confederation Bridge, which connects Prince Edward Island to mainland Canada. He is a recognized expert in the design and construction of post-tensioned concrete bridges.



Mr. Crigler is currently serving as the vice president of ASBI and in 2008 received the prestigious ASBI Leadership Award given for outstanding leadership for the development of the segmental bridge industry. In 2009 he was named a fellow of PTI and is a member of the American Concrete Institute and the American Society of Civil Engineers.



Mr. Crigler and his wife Kathy have been married for 30 years and have three children: Leslie, Nicholas, and Laura.
