Robert L. Mills, III, P.E.,
1968 B.S. Civil Engineering

Robert L. Mills, III, a 1968 civil engineering graduate of Virginia Tech has served as president of Moseley Architects since 1988. During his years of professional experience, he has provided overall supervision and direction on the design and construction of several hundred million dollars of construction projects.

Under his leadership, he has guided Moseley through several successful expansions and mergers. By combining his formal training in engineering with his passion for marketing and customer service, Mr. Mills has been able to grow a successful firm. For example, under his guidance, the firm is the leader in “Green Building Design” (LEED) and his office building, recently completed in Richmond, Va., is the first Platinum LEED Building to receive historic tax credits in Virginia. His philosophy is to always put quality and customer satisfaction first, while being the leader in new technology.

Lane Ramsey, former County Administrator of Chesterfield County, Va., recalls, “I have known Bob Mills for more than twenty years. In that time, I have come to know him as a true professional who has the unique ability to understand the needs and challenges of his clients. His leadership style is very inspiring.”

William Bosher, former Superintendent of Schools for the Commonwealth of Virginia says, “Bob Mills is the epitome of service. The success of his company clearly reflects his values and virtues. Not only does Bob believe in service, he acts it out in all that he does. Bob Mills is someone that you would like to run your company – and be your neighbor.”

Mr. Mills is a registered professional engineer as well as a certified value engineer in Virginia. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Society for Marketing Professional Services, and an associate member of the American Institute of Architects. Throughout the commonwealth, he has been active in many educational foundations and a strong supporter of youth sports. His firm sponsored the Virginia Tech Solar Decathlon Effort in 2005 and 2009, and Mr. Mills created a scholarship program in 2007.

He is a proud advocate of Virginia Tech; at his firm of over 200 employees, 25 percent are Virginia Tech graduates. Mr. Mills has been an avid supporter of the athletic program and under his leadership the firm has designed projects such as the West Side Expansion and the South End Zone Expansion of Lane Stadium.

Both of his children are graduates of Virginia Tech.
