Michael N. Biscotte, PE,

Michael Biscotte, PE, earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in structures from the Via Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in 1980. Upon graduation from Virginia Tech, Biscotte joined Hayes, Seay, Mattern and Mattern (HSMM), Inc. a Roanoke based architectural and engineering firm. In his 27 years with HSMM, Biscotte held numerous technical and management assignments, including serving on the company’s board of directors.



Biscotte worked on many projects with HSMM, and one of the most notable was the renovation of the Pentagon. He helped to direct the design and retrofitting of Wedge 1 of the Pentagon, a renovation that was put to the test on September 11, 2001. HSMM’s structural reinforcement of the exterior walls and replacement of the fire protection system helped save countless lives.



In 2003, Biscotte received his Master of Business Administration degree from Radford University, and in 2007 HSMM was acquired by AECOM, a 45,000-person company providing design and management services worldwide in all major market sectors. Biscotte served for five years as a Senior Vice President for AECOM, heading up operations for the North America Building Engineering unit, including 1,200 employees in 25 cities across North America.



Biscotte is currently a Senior Engineer with Radford University’s Facilities Design and Construction group, managing new construction and renovation projects across campus. The University just recently boasted the completion of its new signature Business building, and upcoming projects include a major Sciences building and a campus fitness center.



Biscotte is a member of Chi Epsilon, a Fellow in the American Society of Civil Engineers, and a member of the Society of American Military Engineers. His career has included many award winning projects, and numerous technical papers and conferences. He supports the Via Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, serving as a previous Chair of the CEE Alumni Advisory Board, and is a member of the College of Engineering Committee of 100.



Biscotte has been married to his high school sweetheart Dawn for 33 years. They have a son Stephen and daughter-in-law Laura, and daughter Ashley and son-in-law Justin, with grandchildren Carter, Logan, and Miles. He is a past President of the Botetourt Country Club, which was founded by his father in 1963, and enjoys playing golf, music, and biking, along with supporting all Hokies sports teams.
