Anthony J. Moraco,
B.S. 1982, M.S. 1984
Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC)

Mr. Anthony J. Moraco received both his bachelors and masters degrees from the Via Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering with a concentration in geodetic science. Upon graduation from Virginia Tech, Moraco began his career at Autometric, Inc. in 1984 where he developed imagery exploitation software solutions utilizing his masters degree research in analytical photogrammetry. This included software applications for analytical stereo plotters that enabled imagery analysts to develop maps and intelligence products from aerial photography and spy satellites.

The most notable application of the photogrammetry system was the first military use of the Tomahawk cruise missile that supported the 1991 Desert Storm air campaign against Iraq. Measuring precise target locations enabled the mission planning and guidance system of over 275 cruise missiles to successfully destroy Iraqi command and control centers and surface-to-air missile sites.

Moraco later served in program management positions for geographic information systems, remote sensing technology, and digital image processing. During his 30 year career, he has been involved with geospatial technologies that evolved from film and hardcopy maps to computer-based digital imagery systems utilized in today's navigation systems and other applications.

The Boeing Company acquired Autometric in 2000 and Moraco served in various business leadership roles until 2006. Then in 2006 Moraco joined Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) and managed programs for the U.S. Air Force, the National Reconnaissance Office, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, and other offices within the Intelligence Community and the Department of Defense. Programs included technical support to numerous classified military and intelligence operations including surveillance, reconnaissance, and counter terrorism missions.

Moraco is currently the Chief Executive Officer of (SAIC), a $4B public company with 14,000 employees. SAIC is a leading technology integrator providing systems engineering and technology integration services and solutions in the technical, engineering, and enterprise information technology markets. He previously held the positions of president of SAIC’s Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Group, and executive vice president for Operations and Performance Excellence.

Moraco has supported the CEE department as an Alumni Advisory Board member from 2005 to 2012 and is currently a member of the VT College of Engineering Advisory Board and Committee of 100. Moraco also serves as a board member for the Northern Virginia Technology Council and Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit organization that provides emergency assistance to military families. He is also a member of two steering committees; Blueprint Virginia, an economic development initiative sponsored by the Virginia Chamber of Commerce and the Defense Industry Initiative that promotes business ethics within the Defense industry.

Moraco has been a resident of Fairfax County Virginia since graduation and has been married for 29 years to Cathy, his high school sweetheart from Buffalo NY. They have three sons, Tony, Mike, and Nick, the youngest who is also a Hokie as a sophomore in the Pamplin College of Business. Moraco enjoys playing golf, traveling, and collecting wine.
