Archie D. Pugh completed his B.S. in Civil Engineering at Virginia Tech in 1990 and his M.S. in 1992. While at the university, Archie served as President of the Chi Epsilon honor society. He also received the 1990 William J. Thompson Memorial Award, presented to the outstanding CEE graduate.



After completing his degrees, Mr. Pugh joined the professional staff in the Transmission Line Engineering section of American Electric Power (AEP), where he has managed numerous projects throughout Virginia and West Virginia. His work with the company's high voltage transmission lines and electrical substations has included engineering design, structural and foundation design, grading plans, and erosion and sedimentation control plans.



Mr. Pugh currently is the Project Engineer for the company's 765kV Transmission Reinforcement project, which is a $283 million dollar reinforcement of southwestern Virginia's electrical system. In this role he has worked with the permitting aspects of the project, including coordinating with state and federal regulatory agencies and interacting with citizens groups.



Mr. Pugh is a Registered P.E. in the Commonwealth of Virginia. In 1994, he was awarded a second place Excellence in Engineering Award from the Southeastern Electric Exchange. He served as AEP's representative to the United Way's Loaned Executive Program in 1995 and helped coordinate their fund drive for the year.



An active Virginia Tech alumnus, Archie served on the CEE Alumni Advisory Board from 1992 to 1995. While on the Board, he coordinated the scholarship and teaching excellence awards.



Archie and his wife, Carrie, live in Salem, Virginia, and have a daughter, Ashlyn. He is a member of the Taylor Masonic Lodge and has taught Sunday School to high school youth at Bethel Baptist Church in Salem.
