R. Bradley Chewning,

Retired, Virginia Department of Environmental Quality

Brad received his B.S. and M.S. in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech in 1964 and 1971, respectively. While at Virginia Tech, he was in Tau Beta Pi, Chi Epsilon, the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets, and the Virginia Tech President’s Top 100 Graduates. He also earned credits in MBA programs at Syracuse University and James Madison University.

Most recently, Brad served as the Regional Director for the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. He managed DEQ responsibilities for a 15-county area and directed over 80 engineers and staff. He has also served as the Regional Director and the Occoquan Project Manager of the State Water Control Board. Brad is a licensed professional engineer in Virginia.

Brad continues to be an active volunteer in the community, serving on the advisory board for the local Salvation Army, President of the Advisory Board for James Madison University’s Life Long Learning Institute, Chairman of the Harrisonburg Rockingham Regional Sewer Authority, and Vice Chairman of the Harrisonburg Economic Development Authority. He is also a past member of the Water Environment Association and the American Water Works Association.

Brad has been an excellent model of a Hokie and a graduate of the CEE department throughout his career. He has served his profession well and is always living up to Ut Prosim through his numerous volunteer activities.
