CEE 4454 : MASONRY STRUCTURAL DESIGN
Course Description :

Masonry materials, material testing, material specifications. Structural behavior and design of masonry elements (walls, beams, and columns) and systems used in structures. Construction techniques and the details of masonry construction. Building codes relating to analysis and design of masonry structures.

Specific Course Objectives :
  • Describe basic properties of masonry constituents (clay brick, concrete masonry units, mortar, grout, and reinforcement)
  • Define tests and specifications controlling the use and design of masonry materials
  • Analyze and design masonry members, including beams, lintels, columns, pilasters, and walls
  • Apply current structural masonry design procedures
  • Analyze and design masonry shear wall systems for low-rise masonry structures

CEE 3684 and CEE 3424 (C- or better)
