CEE 5714 : SURFACE WATER QUALITY MODELING
Course Description :

Use, analysis, and development of water quality models for lakes, rivers, and estuaries. Emphasis on model calibration, verification, and post-audit analysis. Lab portion will develop and apply a eutrophication model for an estuary using existing data.

Specific Course Objectives :
  • Use reactor mass balance models as simplified pollutant transport models.
  • Describe the basic hydrodynamics of lakes, rivers and estuaries and how they integrate into water quality models.
  • Conduct model calibration, evaluate effectiveness using residual analysis, leverage analysis, parameter correlation and sensitivity analysis.
  • Identify the key state variable, relationships and parameters for BOD/DO models.
  • Identify the key state variables, relationships and parameters for eutrophication models.
