CEE 4514 : METHODS IN GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING
Course Description :

Principles and techniques for characterizing earth materials (soil and rock) for civil engineering projects in various regional environments; with emphasis on the interdisciplinary approach to field exploration and site description through soil mechanics theory, geologic correlations, geophysical methods, in site testing and sampling.

Specific Course Objectives :
  • Identify, describe and characterize geologic materials, structures and processes potentially impacting site-specific geotechnical engineering design and construction.
  • Apply basic principles of soil mechanics, fluid mechanics, rock mechanics, engineering geology and geoscience to engineering analysis and design in a variety of ground conditions.
  • Demonstrate ability to represent interactions between constructed facilities and geologic environments as geomechanical and process-oriented models.

C- or better in CEE 3514
