CEE 5774 : HAZARDOUS WASTE MANAGEMENT
Course Description :

Review of regulatory framework governing hazardous waste management. Characteristics of hazardous wastes. Fundamental physical, chemical, and biological principles applied to the design of treatment processes. Risk management. Case studies. Design project.

Specific Course Objectives :
  • Apply regulations governing SUPERFUND to hazardous waste sites.
  • Use risk assessment techniquest to establish treatment criteria.
  • Design individual components of hazardous waste treatment systems.
  • Develop costs estimates for components of subsurface remediation systems.
  • Integrate individual system components into overall preliminary design for remediation of hazardous waste sites.
  • Organize and write effective engineering reports.
  • Prepare and make persuasive oral presentations.
  • Develop ability to function efficiently on a design team.
