This advanced course will be totally taught by three teams of land development professionals with organizational help from the CEE department.
The meeting times will be different from most courses at Virginia Tech to accommodate the hours of the professionals. Most contact hours will be longer sessions either in the evenings or weekends. Meeting locations will be predominantly at Virginia Tech, but the class will also travel to job sites.
CEE 4284 reviews the basics of CEE 4274 - Land Development Design, but then uses case studies that are familiar to the 3 teams of practitioners to highlight specific types of developments and issues.
Each team of professionals will be responsible for a 5 week period (15 contact hours) with the goal of presenting a project constraints, issues, and applicable codes, and then giving the student groups a chance to come up with a design that works. Each team will focus on a particular segment of a project, such as stormwater management or erosion and sediment control.
