CEE 4544 : DESIGN OF EARTH STRUCTURES
Course Description :

Application of geotechnical engineering principles in the design and construction of earth structures. Subsurface models, shear strength of soil, slope stability, earth fills, earth retention, ground improvement, sustainability considerations, geotechnical reporting.

Specific Course Objectives :
  • Interpret subsurface exploration information and laboratory test data.
  • Apply geotechnical engineering principles and analysis methods to the design of an earth structure.
  • Provide construction recommendations, including methods to mitigate adverse impacts of subsurface conditions.
  • Participate as a member of an integrated team to complete a design project.
  • Prepare written geotechnical design reports and make an oral/visual presentation of the project or one of its components.
