CEE 5440 : INSTRUMENTATION AND SIGNAL PROCESSING FOR CIVIL ENGINEERING APPLICATION
Course Description :

Fundamental operating principles and implementation guidelines for instrumentation in civil engineering. Measurements for strain and load, acceleration, temperature, and pressure. Data acquisition and signal processing concepts, sampling, filtering, and frequency domain analysis. Statistics, uncertainty analysis, and experimental methods applied to sensor measurements. Pre: Graduate standing. (3H, 3C)

Specific Course Objectives :
  • Mathematically describe the fundamental operating principles associated with sensors used in various civil engineering applications.
  • Design and deploy a complete data acquisition system for static and dynamic testing.
  • Apply frequency and time-domain transformations to discrete signals.
  • Analyze the statistical properties of signals and calculate measurements uncertainties.
  • Specify the required instrumentation specifications, signal conditioning, and acquisition requirements for various applications.
