Mechanical and hydraulic properties of rock masses; analysis and design of rock foundations, slopes, tunnels, and other forms of civil infrastructure; rock reinforcement.
Specific Course Objectives :
Estimate rock mass engineering properties from field observations and data
Characterize geometry and shear strength of rock fractures and fracture sets
Perform stress computations in two and three dimensions
Compute flow and pressure distributions within fracture networks
Determine support requirements for tunnels, shafts and chambers using rock mass classification and keyblock analysis
Evaluate stability and design reinforcement for rock foundations and slopes using stereographic projection and vector techniques.
