CEE 5594 : GEOLOGICAL ENGINEERING
Course Description :

Mechanical and hydraulic properties of rock masses; analysis and design of rock foundations, slopes, tunnels, and other forms of civil infrastructure; rock reinforcement.

Specific Course Objectives :
  • Estimate rock mass engineering properties from field observations and data
  • Characterize geometry and shear strength of rock fractures and fracture sets
  • Perform stress computations in two and three dimensions
  • Compute flow and pressure distributions within fracture networks
  • Determine support requirements for tunnels, shafts and chambers using rock mass classification and keyblock analysis
  • Evaluate stability and design reinforcement for rock foundations and slopes using stereographic projection and vector techniques.
