CEE 4604 : TRAFFIC ENGINEERING
Course Description :

Study of traffic and parking characteristics; application of traffic control devices; principles and techniques used to improve the efficiency and safety of traffic flow systems.

Specific Course Objectives :
  • Use the Greenshields traffic stream model to compute traffic stream speed, density, and flow.
  • Calibrate the Greenshields and Van Aerde traffic stream models to field measurements using linear regression and the SPD_CAL calibration tool.
  • Compute the level of service and capacity of weaving sections using the HCM procedures.
  • Compute the level of service and capacity of merge and diverge sections using the HCM procedures.
  • Construct and model merge, diverge, weaving sections, and isolated signalized intersections using the CORSIM and/or INTEGRATION software.
  • Evaluate the operation of existing signal timings at an isolated intersection using the HCM procedures.
  • Design the signal timings of an isolated intersection considering shared lanes and permissive movements.
  • Compute the delay and stops between two signalized intersections along an arterial roadway.
